Liu Jianhua is regarded as an expert in the medium of ceramics. Liu Jianhua’s work has evolved from the individual experience of his previous work to a growing concern for societal issues. In his solo exhibition Untitled at Beijing Commune, the works focus on issues of history and questions of purely formal thought. End of 2012, the material is transformed from a traditional art form into a desire for cultural revitalization. Liu uses the vulnerability of the ceramic form to highlight the process of change in the 21st century. This work continues with the traditional medium, but it is unique in its contemporary abstraction. In this way, the work represents a continuation and regeneration of the history of art. End of 2012 exemplifies a new history of traditional aesthetics in contemporary society.
